Push E-mail:
You’ve Got Push E-Mail!
Push e-mail gives e-mail systems the “always-on” capability, where newly arrived e-mails are instantly available to be read on mobile devices, such as Nokia or Windows Mobile devices. The push e-mail system is comprised of a server and a client (or handheld device). When the server sees new mail for a mobile user, it retrieves a copy and sends (or pushes) the newly received mail to the client. That is how the mobile user can instantly read newly arrived mails on his or her handheld device. This service became instantly popular because it offers remote users “instant” e-mail. The handheld device becomes a dynamically updating copy of the user’s mailbox.
Why would push e-mail be of interest to the Internet customer? Because it is highly personalized and convenient. Viewers can specify what mail to receive on their handhelds – such as particular topics, types of content, and senders’ mail addresses. Through filtering, customers only receive messages that would be of interest to them. Your inbox at home may be filled with 'junk mail' for things that they do not want. Push e-mail is also powerful filtering method in delivering specified messages to users who want to read them.
